Greene County Mugshot Retention
No official Greene County source states a fixed mugshot retention window. The roster has Current and Released options, and the homepage shows recent booking and release widgets, but the research found no county rule saying a photo stays online for a set number of hours or days. A non-official claim about a short release window was not used because it was not verified by an official source. The safer rule is to search the current roster first, then the Released option, then call or request the record.
Most Wanted is a separate sheriff feature behind its own disclaimer. It should not be treated as a jail mugshot archive. A most-wanted entry can be warrant or fugitive adjacent, while a roster mugshot is tied to a booking profile at the detention center. Those two uses can overlap in real life, but they are different public tools.
Note: If a booking photo disappears from the web roster, that does not prove the underlying booking record was destroyed or sealed.
Greene County Mugshot Public Records
Arkansas research did not locate a statute that says the phrase "mugshots are public records" in the same direct way some states do. The practical rule for Greene County is still clear: the sheriff's office publishes booking photos on the official roster, and Arkansas FOIA broadly opens public records unless an exemption applies. A request for an older or missing booking photo should be framed as a request for a booking photograph or booking record held by the sheriff or detention-center records custodian.

Exemptions still matter. Juvenile records, sealed records, active investigative material, medical information, and court-restricted information may be withheld or redacted. A booking photograph may also be unavailable online even when some form of booking record still exists at the jail.
Request Greene County Booking Photos
When a Greene County jail mugshot is not visible, start with the jail rather than a broad web search. The practical local fallback is to call Greene County Detention Center at 870-239-6334 and ask how to request a booking record or booking photograph. The sheriff forms page did not show a dedicated public-records request form. Arkansas FOIA allows requests by in person, telephone, mail, fax, email, or other custodian-provided electronic means, and the request must be specific enough for staff to locate the record.
- Identify the person by full name and, if known, date of birth.
- Add the booking date, arresting agency, and booking number if the roster showed one.
- Ask for the booking photograph associated with that booking, not a vague search for all photos.
- Send the request to the sheriff or detention-center records custodian by an allowed FOIA channel.
- Ask whether copy costs, redactions, or exemptions apply before expecting delivery.
- Use Search ARCourts or the clerk for court files, because the sheriff does not maintain the court docket.
Greene County Mugshot Removal Limits
No Greene County page in the research states a local mugshot-removal policy after dismissal, acquittal, sealing, or expungement. Arkansas record sealing may limit public access to eligible criminal records after a court order, but a sealing order should not be read as a promise that every copy once published online will vanish at the same time. The official route is to address the court record, sealing order, and record custodian that controls the specific record.
Arkansas Act 450 of 2021, also known from HB1437, addresses private publish-for-pay websites that use law-enforcement booking photographs and require payment for removal. It defines a booking photograph as an image taken for law-enforcement identification at booking and defines publish-for-pay websites as privately owned sites that require payment to remove the photo. The Act requires those sites to provide owner or operator contact details and a no-cost request mechanism. That law targets private paid-removal publishing practices, not the sheriff's official roster.
State and Federal Mugshots
Greene County jail mugshots are local booking photos. They are different from Arkansas Department of Corrections profiles, federal prisoner locators, and immigration detention tools. If a person is sentenced to Arkansas state prison or appears under a Greene-specific ADC entry such as Greene Co.309/Work, Greene County Waiting List, or Greene Cty 309-In Jail, use Arkansas DOC inmate search for state-custody status.
